The surface roughness of sand casting products is large, and the surface roughness of precision casting is good.
Steel, iron and most non-ferrous alloy castings can be obtained by sand mold casting. Sand mold casting is easy to manufacture and can adapt to single piece production, batch production and mass production of marine castings. It is generally used as the basic process in casting production.
Precision casting is divided into investment casting, ceramic mold casting, metal mold casting, pressure casting and lost foam casting. The products of precision casting are precise, complex and close to the shape of the parts. They can be directly used without or with little processing. Therefore, precision casting is an advanced process of near net shape formation.
Metal casting
advantage
1. The cooling speed of the metal mold is faster, the casting structure is denser, and can be strengthened by heat treatment. The mechanical properties are about 15% higher than those of sand mold casting.
2. Metal mold casting has stable casting quality, better surface roughness than sand mold casting, and low scrap rate.
3. Good labor conditions, high productivity and easy for workers to master.
shortcoming
1. Metal mold has high thermal conductivity and poor filling capacity.
2. The metal mold has no air permeability. Corresponding measures must be taken to effectively exhaust.
3. The metal mold has no yielding property and is prone to crack and deformation during solidification.
Sand casting
advantage
1. Compared with other casting methods, sand casting has the advantages of low cost, simple production process and short production cycle.
2. Because the molding materials used in sand casting are cheap and easy to obtain, and the mold manufacturing is simple, it can adapt to the single piece production, batch production and mass production of castings.
shortcoming
The quality of molding sand and core sand directly affects the quality of castings. Poor quality of molding sand will cause defects such as porosity, sand hole, sand sticking and sand inclusion.
